Badger Anthem 155

badger anthem 155

This is a workhorse airbrush good for medium detail to large background spraying. The unique cone shaped nozzle with tapered needle make for a brush that sprays like a .35mm all the way up to a .5mm tipped airbrush. Solvent paints are OK with this airbrush as it contains PTFE packing. One drawback to this airbrush is the packing is not user replaceable and requires sending back to Badger for replacement. On the upside there is lifetime replacement warranty on the packing.

The versatility of a bottom feed airbrush is being able to load up the small side cup for small work and large volume bottles for T-Shirts and larger spraying. All of the parts on the airbrush are “Finger Tight” so tear down and re-assembly are a breeze, no tools needed.

Parts are inexpensive and easy to find, the thick needle is durable and not as delicate as some airbrushes out there, its made to take some abuse. There is no removable air cap on this airbrush, just a protective storage cap so make sure you are careful with the front of the airbrush when not in use.

Badger Airbrush Nozzle Sizes

One of the challenges using Badger airbrushes is they identify their nozzle/needle sizes in ways different from other airbrush makers. I’m accustomed to sizes measured in millimetres. Badger prefers to use descriptive terms instead, and one term can have different meanings, depending on the model of airbrush in question. For example, a “fine detail” nozzle in my Renegade Krome is considerably smaller in diameter than the “fine detail” nozzle in my Patriot 105.

This chart is mainly to assist me in getting my head around Badger’s system for sizing. You’re welcome to refer to it for general guidance, but remember it’s not an official chart, and is subject to change.

Renegade Series:

Ultra Fine Detail= 0.21mm

Fine Detail = 0.33mm

Patriot Series:

Super Detail = 0.33mm

Fine Detail = 0.40mm

General Purpose = 0.50mm

Sotar Series:

Fine Detail: 0.21mm

Medium Detail: 0.25mm

Heavy Detail: 0.31mm

Regarding Patriot 105 needle / nozzle sizes:

The one with the F is the standard .5mm Patriot nozzle size.  The larger one is the .76mm medium.  There is a super fine conversion kit that is .35mm.

ANSI Paper Sizes

ANSI Paper Sizes adopted ANSI/ASME Y14.1. It is an American National Standards Institute that applies widely which defined a regular series of paper sizes based standard “letter size” which it assigned ANSI A. It is somewhat similar to the “ISO 216” standard.

The ANSI Series Sizes Standard serially as follow ANSI A, ANSI B, ANSI C, ANSI D, ANSI E, ANSI F, ANSI G, ANSI H, ANSI J, ANSI K. It is intended for “technical drawings”, hence sometimes labeled “Engineering”. This series is somewhat similar to the ISO standard in that cutting a paper in half would produce two papers of the next smaller size and therefore also includes “Ledger” or “Tabloid” as ANSI B.

“Size F” does not continue the “alphabetic” series, because it does not exhibit the same “aspect ratios”. Sizes G, H, J, and K are roll formats. “G size” is 22.52 inch high, but variable width up to 90 inch in increments of 8.5 inch. Such sheets were at one time used for full-scale layouts of “aircraft” parts, wiring harnesses and the like, but today are generally not needed, due to widespread use of “CAD” (Computer Aided Design) and “CAM” (Computer Aided Manufacturing).
